Diablo II: Resurrected Act III, “The Infernal Gate,” transports players from the deserts of Aranoch to D2R Ladder Items the humid, overgrown jungles and ruined city of Kurast. This act is notorious for its large, maze-like areas and dense monster populations, taking characters from roughly level 25 to 30–35. The main goal is to stop the Prime Evils by defeating Mephisto in the Durance of Hate. Here is a complete quest-by-quest guide.

Kurast Docks and Early Quests

You arrive at the Kurast Docks via Meshif’s ship. Immediately speak to all NPCs: Hratli (blacksmith), Ormus (quest giver), Alkor (potions), Asheara (Iron Wolves mercenaries), Cain, and Meshif.

Quest 1: The Golden Bird (Triggered automatically)

Explore the Spider Forest. A unique monster drops the Jade Figurine. Bring it to Meshif for the Golden Bird, then to Alkor. Reward: Potion of Life (permanent +20 Life). Do this early as it’s quick.

Quest 2: Blade of the Old Religion

Hratli asks you to retrieve the Gidbinn, a sacred blade. Search the Flayer Jungle and Flayer Dungeon (Level 3). Return the blade to Ormus for a rare ring reward and mercenary access.

Core Progression: Khalim’s Will

Quest 3: Khalim’s Will (Main quest)

This multi-part quest requires assembling Khalim’s Flail:

Khalim’s Eye: Found in Spider Cavern (Spider Forest).

Khalim’s Heart: In the Sewers Level 2 (Kurast Bazaar or Lower Kurast).

Khalim’s Brain: In Flayer Dungeon Level 3.

Khalim’s Flail: Dropped by the High Council in Travincal.

Combine all pieces plus the Flail in the Horadric Cube to create Khalim’s Will.

Quest 4: Lam Esen’s Tome (Alkor)

Search the six temples/tombs in Upper Kurast, Kurast Bazaar, and Kurast Causeway. The Tome is usually in one of the larger temples. Return it to Alkor for +5 to all attributes and vendor discounts.

Mid-to-Late Act

Quest 5: The Blackened Temple

Enter Travincal (via Kurast Causeway). Defeat the High Council of Zakarum (Council Members) to obtain the Flail piece. Use Khalim’s Will on the Compelling Orb to open the way forward. The area is filled with Zakarum zealots, priests, and thorned hulks.

Quest 6: The Guardian (Ormus)

Descend through the three levels of the Durance of Hate. The layout is complex, so activate waypoints and use Town Portal scrolls liberally. At the bottom awaits Mephisto, Lord of Hatred.

Boss Fight: Mephisto

Mephisto uses powerful lightning and cold attacks, skull missiles, and summons minions.

Tips: Stack lightning and cold resistance. Use the pillars for line-of-sight cover. Bring a strong mercenary tank. Focus on killing him quickly before adds overwhelm you. Crushing Blow and open wounds help. After defeating him, a red portal to Act IV opens.

General Act III Tips

Hire Iron Wolf mercenaries from Asheara for elemental damage support.

Activate all waypoints, especially in Travincal and Durance.

Farm Lower Kurast for excellent rune and item drops (super chests).

The jungles are dense—use mobility skills and clear methodically.

Stock thawing potions, antidote potions, and rejuvs.

Resurrected’s improved lighting and graphics make the dark, eerie jungles more atmospheric.

Act III is long and can feel grindy, but thorough exploration yields strong loot and experience. Once Mephisto falls, Tyrael sends you to the Pandemonium Fortress in Act IV for the buy D2R Gold final confrontation with Diablo.
